Downloading SP1 onto a brand new hard drive

A couple of days ago, my hard drive on my old E Machine died. I bought a new
hard drive and installed it. Ran the system restore disks that came with the
computer and now I get the error message Unmountable boot volume. I checked
the install guide for the hard drive and it said that XP Service pack 1 was
required for install. I couldnt find SP1 on the download site, found SP1a but
doesnt load that one either. HELP!

Service Pack 1 is /not/ needed for a clean install on a blank hard disk.
In fact, Windows isn't needed. You could put Ubuntu on the disk if you
wanted to (and many would recommend you do.)

Here's where you can get help with eMachines system restore procedure:

When you used the "system restore disks" did it
prompt you to partition and or format the new drive?

SP1a is SP1 without the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine, as Microsoft
had lost the law suit that Sun had issued.

As for you current problem, you need to know that the System Restore
system was "generated" for the older failed hard drive drive.  If you
have not replaced it with a "similar" size hard drive, you may
encounter this problem.  It seems that the hard drive is larger that
128GB, which is why the manual states you require SP1.

The issue is not sp1

Check fist to see if you jumpered the new driver properly...

also: you restored the machine incorrectly or perhaps
your original drive did not die...but you have a different H/W problem
